1.   What is the Virtual FTP Controller?
2.   How do I access the Virtual FTP Controller?
3.   How do I create a Virtual FTP user?
4.   How do I delete a Virtual FTP user?
5.   How do I change the password for an existing Virtual FTP user?
1.   What is the Virtual FTP Controller?
The Virtual FTP Controller is an online utility that will allow you to create and manage your own authenticated virtual FTP users. Each virtual FTP user can have it's own password and it's own "home directory".

Virtual FTP users are the best way to allow other people to maintain sections of your web site for you while at the same time restricting them from altering sections you don't wish them to have access to.

Let's suppose that you maintain a web site that reviews movies. You would have various sections to your web site, like "drama reviews" and "comedy reviews". Let's suppose that somebody volunteers to help you out with the site and they offer to manage the "drama reviews" section of your web site. By creating a virtual FTP user for this person, you can grant them access to the "drama" section of your web site and at the same time restrict them from changing any other section of your web site.

2.   How do I access the Virtual FTP Controller?
To access the Virtual FTP Controller you simply visit the Account Utilities section of our support site. There you will find, among other things, a link to the Virtual FTP Controller.

When you first open up the Virtual FTP Controller you will be asked to enter your username and password. The username and password are the same username and password used to access the STATS area of your web site.

3.   How do I create a Virtual FTP user?
After logging in to the Virtual FTP Controller you will find that the controller is split into three sections. The third section allows you to create new virtual FTP users.

When creating a new user remember that the username will automatically be prepended with your login followed by an underscore. So if you create a user called "bob" and your login is "a0000" then the username for the virtual FTP user will be "a0000_bob".

When setting the "home directory" for the virtual FTP user remember to do it relative to the home directory for you account. So if your home directory were:

     /local/home/a000

and you wanted to set the home directory for the virtual FTP user to:

     /local/home/a000/domains/foo.com

Then you would enter a directory of:

     /domains/foo.com

Your account home directory is automatically prepended to the home directory of the virtual FTP user.

4.   How do I delete a Virtual FTP user?
After logging in to the Virtual FTP Controller you will find that the controller is split into three sections. The first section lists your current virtual FTP users. If you wish to delete a user simply click the "delete" button that appears on the same line as the user you wish deleted.

5.   How do I change the password for an existing Virtual FTP user?
After logging in to the Virtual FTP Controller you will find that the controller is split into three sections. The second section allows you to change the password for current virtual FTP users. Simply select the user you want from the pull down menu and enter his new password. Click the "change" button after you've entered the new password.
